It's dead, Jim.
After more than 18 months of faithful service, the fan on my ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe has bit the dust.
The system, will POST, but usually BSOD or even GSOD into a hard lock during the boot up of Windows, the northbridge chip on this motherboard gets DAMN HOT to the touch so I can see why it is locking up.
A new heatsink/fan is on order from ASUS, I just hope the motherboard is not too far gone.
On one hand if it is, they can replace it. However, if they refuse, then it is time to build a new system.
The Intel Core 2 Duo is looking mighty tasty. But my original upgrade hopes were to wait until Vista, Direct X10 native video cards, and Flight Simulator X to be released before upgrades.
Those plans may have changed somewhat.
